Dr. Ferdinand Bauer and I share a deep friendship and a high level of professional respect. Dr. Bauer is not only an outstanding radiologist, with medical insight that effortlessly extends into the surgeons’ operating theater, but also an exceptional manager and a person capable of building bridges between people and professionals.
Through his active involvement in the radiological community, Dr. Bauer has repeatedly demonstrated his strong commitment to promoting continuous medical education, collaboration, and professional development. Over the years, he has organized numerous exchange programs through his clinics, opening doors to the international radiology community and offering young professionals the opportunity to learn and grow in this dynamic field.
Perhaps the most memorable example of his dedication is the experience of the SRIM Summer Academy 2023, which we jointly organized during my tenure as President of the Romanian Society of Radiology and Medical Imaging. This event, hosted by Dr. Bauer in Palkonya, Hungary, provided an environment that facilitated not only the exchange of knowledge but also unique opportunities for social interaction. Ferdinand’s warm atmosphere and hospitality turned this summer academy into an unforgettable experience for all participants.
I am grateful for our collaboration and for the countless opportunities that Dr. Bauer continuously creates, contributing to the development of our profession and the formation of a community oriented toward unity and excellence.
With great appreciation,

About Palkonya and Bauer:
It was just as amazing and enjoyable, Dr. Bauer – a native surgeon who disguised himself as a high-performing radiologist – to get to know and remember moments of my life that had to do with Targu-Mures and in which I believed in any case, to remember.
I met Ferdinand with the opening for the new, for the joung and the ability to give without asking for something that only the big characters are endowed with. I have discovered a friendship that goes beyond the zenith of the profession.
The first meeting in Palkonya gave me the opportunity to meet in a warm environment some people who have “forgotten” that they are personalities and have become close people, all with common themes, scientific and not only. And the trigger that made this possible is the indefatigable Ferdinand, whom I wish him as many successful symposia as possible.
Sincerely,
Sorin

It was a real pleasure to attend the first symposium on rectal cancer, organized by Dr.Ferdinand Bauer at Palkonya in Hungary.
The participation of renowned surgeons in the field of colorectal surgery in Romania and Hungary, the high quality of presentations, a high scientific level, and the special atmosphere in which this symposium took place, contributed to the success of this first scientific event, having a very interesting theme.
The multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, staging and treatment of rectal cancer in a very pleasant scientific and environmental format has made everyone present to be eager to produce a future edition.

The first edition of the Rectal Cancer Symposium, which took place in Palkonya in September 2017, had a topical theme, the multidisciplinary management of rectal cancer.
The event in a rustic setting at the Bauer Winery was a memorable one, both from a scientific and social point of view.
The sustainable work presented much interest and interactive debates among participants, the symposium emphasized the importance of the radio-onco-surgical team in treating rectal cancer.

A few years ago I met him at a scientific manifestation on Dr. Ferdinand Bauer. A renowned radiologist in Germany through his good grace and extraordinary tenacity has taken his time or to come countless times to our surgical manifestations. All this effort is due to his desire to implement in Romania the modern stadialization protocols, mainly of rectum cancer, with the help of performance imaging.
There is no major surgical collective in Romania that does not consider him a real professional and especially a true friend. It all culminated in 2017 when Dr. Ferdinand Bauer decided to organise a symposium dedicated to Rectal cancer at the fresh property of his reign in Palkonya, Hungary. Everything seemed fantastic, a Romanian-Hungarian-German, graduate of Romania, radiologist in Germany with a winery purchased in Hungary organizes a symposium of rectal cancer in Romanian, inviting numerous scientific personalities from the country.
These were the auspices through which during 14-16 September 2017 the first symposium devoted to rectal cancer was held at Palkonya. The organization was impeccable, the works were carried out in a relaxed atmosphere. The program was extremely interesting and comprised the entire area of diagnosis, stadialization and multimodal treatment of rectal cancer. From Endocavitary Ultrasound to nuclear magnetic resonance in the stadialization of rectum cancer to the modern therapeutic options existing and ending with complications after rectal surgery. The presentations have been to a high scientific value. If I spoke about the scientific quality of the symposium I must emphasise and congratulate Dr. Ferdinand Bauer on the special organization of the social program that included the visit of the historic centre of Pecs, the wine tasting at the winery Bock and the special nights spent on the terrace of Bauer’s residence.
Since the first edition of the symposium dedicated to rectal cancer I have remained with a lot of unforgettable memories related to organizing, hospitality and especially friendship.
Thank you Dr. Ferdinand Bauer

I had the pleasure and honor to participate in the first edition of the Rectal Cancer Symposium of September 2017 organized at Palkonya by my friend, Dr. Ferdinand Bauer. Organized with perfect professionalism, surrounded by the wonderful landscapes of Villany and Palkonya, the conference was a debate about the medical problems and the new developments in rectal cancer. The discussions brought to the fore the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, the role of the Oncological Committee and the importance of co-opting the clinician, surgeon and radiotherapist, and the imaging and Anatomo-pathologist in the Diagnosis and treatment plan in this disease.
This conference highlighted the need for continuously implementing the latest information on rectal cancer and interdisciplinary debates.

The symposium dedicated to rectal cancer organized by Dr. Ferdinand Bauer, director of medical imaging Centers-Kaufbeuren, Landsberg and Füssen, Germany, at Casa Bauer in Villány (Palkonya, Pecs, Uhungary) in 2017 was a success of all Points of view.
From a professional-scientific point of view, rectal cancer has experienced a multimodal approach of some Romanian, Hungarian branded specialists, of which we recall:
– Dr. Dudea Sorin (echografist)-Endosonography in evaluating rectal tumors: When and why?
– Dr. Ferdinand Bauer (Radiologist, Imagist) – The structured report in rectal cancer – MRI
– Dr. Dragos Predescu (surgeon)-Surgical therapy in colorectal cancer: adoption of a decision and treatment management options
– PD Dr. Volovat Constantin (oncologist)-circulating tumor cells in colorectal cancer actualities and controversy
– Prof. Dr. Duta Ciprian (surgeon) – Rectal cancer – a 20-year journey from amputation at Ta-TME
– Prof. Dr. Adrian Bartos (surgeon)-Therapeutic options in advanced colorectal cancer
– Prof. Dr. Copotoiu Constantin (surgeon)-intersphincterial resections (ISR) in advanced rectal cancers
– Prof. Dr. Ciuce Constantin (surgeon) – Pelvic exenteration in tumor relapses after rectum amputation
– Prof. Dr. Gustav Bauer (surgeon) – Current treatment and prevention OF erectile dysfunction (DE) in pelvic ablative surgery
– PD Dr. Gabor Istvan (Surgeon) – laparoscopy: Standard technique in Colorectal surgery
– Prof. Dr. Scripcariu Viorel (surgeon) – Multidisciplinary approach to colorectal cancer. Experience of a surgical team
– Prof. Dr. Traean Burcos (surgeon)-complications after surgery middle and lower rectal cancer
– Prof. Dr. Copaescu Catalin (surgeon) – Round Table-Presentation of clinical cases
– Prof. Dr. Silviu Constantinople – The implications of genetics in the personalized treatment of rectum cancer.
The social and cultural programme was very attractive including visiting the town of Pecs, the old university Centre, the Basilica of the mosque, the pottery factory, the tasting visit to the Bock Winery, a therapeutic bath at the newly restored Pecs thermal baths.
I am convinced that the second edition, called “Update in Rectal cancer”, in the same organization and location, will have at least the same success, if not more, benefiting from the scientific presence and prestances of numerous invited university doctors and professors.

Why Palkonya? It all started from a friendly invitation to visit a holiday house in a wine village, mainly inhabited by Hungarians and Saxons, in a hill area near Pecs and thermal baths. The proximity of the border with Serbia and the beautiful city of Villany makes it an interesting and unavoidable tourist area.
The second proposal was: What would you say about a “scientific seating” held here, in an original landscape, a real “wine cellar”, tastefully decorated, making it friendly to any visitor. A theme was also proposed: Rectal cancer. A choice easy to motivate, rectal cancer knowing from the diagnostic and therapeutic point of view the most important developments.
Communicators from most of the university centers from Romania were invited, with works of high scientific standing, which were noted for their diversity and value. None of the works were repeated, the choice was made according to the concerns of each one and the experience gained over time.
The opening ceremony set the tone for an atmosphere of relaxation and high soul sensitivity, in which the host, Dr. Bauer Ferdinand, outdid himself.
The accommodation, the traditional meals, the jokes, the trips to the Pecs and the thermal baths have completed an exceptional scientific-tourist program.
I can say that I attended one of the highest level scientific events.
What will this year be like? A Dr. Bauer of a true friendship, a scientific session all about rectal cancer, which wants to show the dynamism of the evolution of knowledge in this field.
It will be excellent. We will have pleasant surprises and we will certainly discuss the next symposium.
Our companions will enjoy excursions in the surroundings that will make their stay very enjoyable.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Palkonya.
